About Us

Start Differently Limited is a charitable company, limited by guarantee, established in 2023 by Sara-Louise Ackrill and Anthony Gribben-Lisle.

We are supported by Wired Differently Limited, and work closely with them to provide services to our beneficiaries.

Why do we exist?

We exist to help neurodivergent people take their first steps into self-employment.

We understand that many neurodivergent people have the skills, creativity and determination to run their own business, but a single practical barrier can stand in the way of getting started. We're here to help clear that barrier.

Self-employment can be a powerful route into meaningful work, particularly for people who find traditional recruitment and workplaces hard to navigate. But starting a business takes more than a good idea. It often takes equipment, materials, software or other practical essentials that can feel out of reach when you're unemployed or just starting out.

Many neurodivergent people also face additional hurdles, such as barriers to formal diagnosis, limited access to support and a lack of understanding of how they work best. We believe none of these should stop a good idea from getting off the ground
